Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney craves Champions League glory at Wembley
Wayne Rooney, the leading striker at Manchester United, is determined to win the UFEA Champions league, and end the season on a high.
Rooney sent shock waves all across Manchester when he handed in a transfer request in October last year; he had said then that he was not convinced about the long-term ambitions of the club.
However, manager Sir Alex Ferguson and the club management persuaded him to stay, and eventually Rooney took a big U-turn and signed a 5-year contract with the club.
However, even after deciding to stay, the England striker has not been able to find his best form for United. He has scored just 3 goals this season, 2 of which came from the penalty spot.
Rooney’s problems were compounded when a British tabloid reported that Wayne was having a relationship with a famous call girl in England. The revelations weighed heavily on the front man’s mind, and Ferguson decided to send him
off to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 to recuperate from the ankle injury and to clear his mind up.
After all of that - and another ankle injury - http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 came back to the team in the game against Tottenham. Now he has made it clear that he is hungry and ready to win all that comes his way.
Rooney admitted that he has not been firing all cylinders and he is ready to work hard and get back to what he does best - scoring goals.
The 25-year-old striker said: "I feel good. My form has been good in recent games. As a striker, you always want to be scoring goals and I just want to score as many as possible until the end of the season.
"It's a relief to have the contract situation sorted and feel settled. I know I made the right decision to stay. It's been a tough time, but I'm looking forward to helping the team win trophies."
Rooney said that he may not have another chance to win the Champions League on home turf. The final this year is going to be played at Wembley, and Wayne said that it is not every season that one has the chance of winning the big
European title on home soil. Wayne went on to say that it would also be special for the Man U fans. He added that when they won the Champions League in Moscow back in 2008, some travelling fans were present but at home with a packed house of home fans, it
would be a surreal feeling.
Manchester United will take on Marseille in the two-legged final 16 tie next month. This would be the first game between the two teams since 1999. That was the season when Manchester United won the historic treble.
Rooney said that the team feels confident of getting the better of Marseille, but playing a French team away from home is never an easy task. Rooney also said that there is a good chance that if United make it to the final 4 of
the Champions League, they may face one of the English teams in the competition. He added that considering the final is in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, it would be ideal if two English teams play in the final. However, he admitted that the chances of that happening are quite
slim.
Wayne ended by saying that despite Manchester United being not at their best, they are still on top of the table in the League and unbeaten in all competitions but one. So when they really hit their form in the final 3rd of
the season, the possibility of winning not just one but multiple silverware is quite likely.
