Rooney has been an anti-Liverpool all his life, having been an Evertonian before he moved to Manchester United all those years ago. He claims that winning title number 19 would be a special achievement, and even Everton fans will be rooting for the Red Devils
to bring home the crown in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Speaking on the possibility of overtaking Liverpool in the history of English football, Rooney said, “I grew up an Everton fan so to be part of the team to overtake Liverpool's record would be brilliant. It would mean so much to us players as well as the
fans. It is something I have been thinking about a lot. I know all the Everton fans want us to do it and hopefully we can.”
Aside from the Premier League title, Manchester United are also in the running for the FA Cup crown in the season. The Red Devils are through to the semi-finals of the competition, having defeated Arsenal to book their place in the last four a few weeks
ago.
Now United will face bitter City rivals Manchester City in the semi-final, and Wayne Rooney is desperate to overcome the Sky Blues and go all the way to the FA Cup title this time around.
Rooney said, “I am confident we can beat them (Manchester City). I am desperate to win the competition, having lost two finals. We have a great chance of going all the way this year. It is a massive competition with a lot of history. I watched it religiously
growing up and going so close twice has been hard to take.”
Manchester United currently sit at the summit of the Premier League standings with 63 points.
