Manchester United's injury woes deepen
Manchester United have seen their injury crisis intensify after their English Premier League derby clash with Manchester City on Wednesday, 10 November.
Full-back Rafael Da Silva picked up a dead leg after a tussle with City captain and former United striker Carlos Tevez, while fellow defender Patrice Evra received an ankle injury, forcing his substitution.
Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Paul Scholes picked up his fifth booking of the season in the goalless draw at the City of Manchester Stadium. As a result, he will be suspended for the trip to face Aston Villa on Saturday.
The news will come as a blow to Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who already saw his squad depleted before the City match when a virus hit several members of the squad.
The club are also missing key players such as striker Wayne Rooney, long-term absentee Owen Hargreaves, winger Luis Antonio Valencia, midfielder Ryan Giggs and forward Michael Owen due to various injuries.
Ferguson told reporters, "Rafael has a dead leg. He will miss Saturday, of course, but it is not so bad. Patrice has an ankle injury, which we will assess on Thursday.
"We have done well to get a good team on the pitch (against City)."
With Rafael and Evra both likely to miss Saturday’s game, Wes Brown and John O'Shea, who turned in solid performances after replacing the full-backs against City, may be drafted into the starting line-up for the game at Villa Park.
Meanwhile, United’s draw with City means that they have now seen five of their six away games in the league this season end in stalemates. The failure to pick up three points against the Citizens means that they are now four points behind leaders and defending
champions Chelsea.
