Manchester United’s winger Nani ready for action
Manchester United’s winger Nani is all set to make a return after missing out in the 2010 World Cup due to a collarbone injury. Nani was to travel with his national team Portugal for the World Cup but just days before leaving he suffered a horrible injury.
He was hugely dejected and disappointed to have missed out on the World Cup. However, he says he has put that behind him and will turn that frustration into positive energy and perform for his club.
Nani was expected to be on road to recovery for longer and was due to join the team just days before the start of the season. Manchester United are currently in United States on a pre season tour and Nani joined the team in Chicago last week.
Nani is expected to make his return to the team in their next match, that is against Philadelphia Union and that will be followed by another game against Kansas City this weekend.
Nani, while talking to the media after training with the team, said that he just started training 3 days back and is feeling fitter than ever. He said that he has been working hard back home ever since his injury.
He added that he knew that the World Cup was gone but he had the start of the season on his mind, and was training to get fit in time for that. Nani said that he would not rush himself in and a few minutes out in the game.
The former sporting Lisbon player said that losing the title last season was disappointing but the team looks ready and up for it this time. He added that Chelsea have become stronger every season and finally they have been able to take away the title, but this season he said things will be different and Chelsea will face a tougher fight.
Nani was very happy with the support he received from his manager during his recovery period, and said that he is a great manager who understands the game and the players’ best. The Portuguese international said he has learned a lot from Ferguson during his time at United and grown immensely as a player.
Sir Alex Ferguson on the other hand is very happy with his team’s preparation, he said that the temperatures in United States are much higher than what we get back home. He said he was pleased to see the team adapting well to the heat. The team took a day off from practice on Tuesday and went to visit the historic Independence Day Hall.
Manchester United manager said that there has been immense security provided to the team in USA, which is quite unnecessary. He said that the team feels very comfortable and is enjoying the time there. Ferguson said that the team has been practicing in double sessions that allows them to rest in the afternoon when the heat is at its peak.
Ferguson said that a tour like this provides him great opportunity to assess the fitness and mental ability of the team ahead of the season. He added that some of his players are not yet back after the World Cup duty but expects them to join very soon. The Scotsman said that the team has been working very hard in trying conditions which will prepare them well for the start of the season.
Meanwhile United’s new signing Chris Smalling said that he is feeling very much at home with the team already. He said that his fellow defenders Jonny Evans and Wes Brown have been very helpful and accommodating. Rio Ferdinand who missed the World Cup due to an injury just days before the start has not yet recovered totally, but is expected to be ready before the start of the season.
