Mandarin Chinese in School?

Can I study Mandarin Chinese for my Junior Cert. in Ireland? I really like it and I want to do it.

  1. If your school offer the program and you what to take it, why not?


  2. The Junior or Leaving Certificate don't offer it as a subject, but that could all change in the future. I remember reading a few debates regarding introducing Chinese and other languages into the examinations, but that was a few years ago and I'm not sure if they'll actually do anything about it. I studied Chinese simultaneously outside of school and in the end I arranged it with my teacher to apply for a GCSE examination and was tested here. It's basically a British equivalent of what you're after, which is as close as you're gonna get until the State Examinations Commission decide to introduce other languages.

  3. um... idk i took mandarin chinese for 5th and 4th grade, im in 6th and i was in college level chinese, i know the whole language~
