Mandated Birth Control???

I just read an email who ranted over the government mandating birth control..She didn't state where she saw it. Has anyone seen or heard this? In the states, or Texas specific please.

  1. In some areas it would be a good idea.


  2. It cannot and will never happen. The reason why the U.S. Supreme court ruled that abortions are constitutional, is because of the arguement that by prohibiting abortions, the government is effectively controlling womens' bodies. The same arguement would apply to mandating birth control.

    Another example is that the U.S. Supreme court ruled that states may not practice mandatory sterilization on s*x offenders for the exact same reason. HOWEVER, states often use sterilization as a bargaining tool for sentencing.... If an offender volunteers to be sterilized, he will recieve a reduced sentence.

    This may very well be played out in Welfare, for instance. A state has the right to restrict welfare benefits to persons only willing to take birth control. Many will argue that is is in some way unconstitutional, however welfare itself is neither guaranteed nor protected by the constitution.

  3. No such thing.  Mandating it would be a bit over insane.
