Mandy Loots captures Women’s 100m butterfly title: Day four – 2011 All African Games
Day four of the 2011 All African Games got off to an impressive start with the mind boggling and efficient performance of South African swimmer, Mandy T Loots, at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Thursday, September 8. The session
of the meet conducted the Women’s 100m butterfly final, where Loots hit the wall in merely 59.86 seconds to clinch the gold medal on the podium.
More importantly, Loots beat her own previous best meet record of 1 minute and 00.09 seconds, set back in 2007.
In the corresponding race, Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry took home the silver medal on the podium by posting a stunning time of 1 minute and 02.20 seconds, while South Africa's Bianca Meyer secured bronze medal with an impressive mark of 1 minute and 03.14
seconds.
After the race, Meyer was pleased with her swim to secure third position in the competition. In the meantime, Fella Benaceur of Algeria was placed fourth in a time of 1 minute and 04.10 seconds and her team-mate, Sarah Hadj Abderrahmane earned fifth place
honours in a time of 1 minute and 06.25 seconds.
The Men’s 400m freestyle crown was taken over by Tunisia's Ahmed Mathlouthi with a winning mark of 3 minutes and 54.03 seconds. More importantly, Ahmed Mathlouthi thrashed down Troyden Prinsloo’s previous best meet record of 3 minutes and 55.29 seconds,
set back in 2007.
Meanwhile, South Africa's Riaan Schoeman earned silver medal on the podium by posting a matchless time of 3 minutes and 58.49 seconds and his team-mate, Mark Randall took home bronze medal on the podium by submitting an immaculate time of 3 minutes and 59.82
seconds.
Youghorta Haddad of Algeria was placed fourth in a time of 4 minutes and 04.39 seconds, while his compatriot, Abdelghani Nefsi wound up fifth in a time of 4 minutes and 07.97 seconds.
The arena gave a huge round of applause to each participant of the competition, while the winners were awarded accolades on account of their impressive swims after the session’s completion.
