Mandy Loots dominates Women’s 200m butterfly semi-finals: Day four - South African LC Nationals
Mandy T Loots of CGA-CG dominated the semi-finals of Women’s 200m butterfly on fourth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Thursday, April 19.
The 33-year-old Loots demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the four-lap butterfly discipline. With her immaculate efforts and powerful strokes, she stayed considerably ahead of her challengers from the beginning of the race.
She remained nearly two body lengths faster from her following swimmer and entered the final round with a fastest timing of 2 minutes and 13.05 seconds.
Her top qualification effort was followed by Bianca J Meyer of KZNA-KZ, who stayed nearly five seconds slower from her and tapped the wall for second best position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 18.54 seconds.
The 23-year-old Meyer was chased by Jessica Liss of EP-EP, who also suffered a deficit of almost five seconds from her preceding swimmer and qualified into the playoff as third best finisher with an effort of 2 minutes and 23.09 seconds.
Liss was chased by Lisa Cowling of WPA-WP, who stayed 0.16 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 23.25 seconds.
Following that, Neil Versfeld of KZNA-KZ won the semi-finals of Men’s 200m breaststroke. The 27-year-old Versfeld stunned the aquatic crowd with his scintillating struggle in the distant breaststroke discipline.
Versfeld remained significantly ahead of his challengers throughout the four-lap event and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.35 seconds for best qualification spot.
His effort was trailed by his teammate, Rory L Buck, who stayed nearly five seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.55 seconds.
The 25-year-old Buck was chased by Terence Parkin, who remained 0.80 seconds slower from his closest competitor and surfaced on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 18.35 seconds.
The session came to an end after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category whereas these contestants will face each other in the finals of their respective disciplines.
