Mandy Loots win Women’s 200m butterfly title – African Senior Championships
Mandy T Loots of RSA-ZZ won gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on final day of the 11th African Senior Swimming Championships 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday, September 16.
The 34-year-old Loots served notice of her talent in the distant butterfly discipline as she earned her way to the top of medal rostrum for gold medal.
With her immaculate efforts, Loots remained considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the race and touched the wall for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 15.85 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by her teammate, Michelle Weber, who stayed nearly five seconds behind and tapped the wall for silver medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 20.41 seconds.
Weber was followed by Marym Rahman El Sayed of EGY-ZZ, who was full body length behind and tapped the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 21.30 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Nesrine Khelifati of ALGE-ZZ, who was four body lengths apart and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher with a timing of 2 minutes and 25.25 seconds.
Fifth best position of the race was obtained by Martha Opiyo of Ken-ZZ, who remained almost 21 seconds behind and completed her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 46.13 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed gruelling efforts of Jason Dunford in the Men’s 50m freestyle. The 25-year-old Dunford remained prominent over his opponents throughout the race and earned gold medal of the swim in a time of 23.01 seconds.
The champion was followed by Oussama Sahnoune of ALGE-ZZ, who was just 0.10 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 23.11 seconds for silver medal.
Third position of the race was secured by Mohamed Abdelmegid of EGY-ZZ, who was 0.31 seconds apart and touched the wall with a timing of 23.42 seconds.
Abdelmegid was chased by Myles M Brown of RSA-ZZ, who was 0.14 seconds apart and finished fourth in the race with an effort of 23.56 seconds.
In addition, Loots and Dunford expressed contentment over their victories after their respective events.
