Mandy Loots wins Women’s 100m butterfly crown at 2011 All African Games – Day four: Recap
Day four of the 2011 All African Games commenced in astonishing fashion with immaculate swims of both Mandy Loots and Ahmed Mathlouthi at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Thursday, September 8. The session of the meet conducted the
Women’s 100m butterfly and Men’s 400m freestyle final races.
In the Women’s 100m butterfly final heat, Mandy Loots captured the gold medal on the podium by submitting a sparkling time of 59.86 seconds. The effort of Mandy Loots was above of her previous best meet time of 1 minute and 00.09 seconds, set back in 2007.
After the race, Loots was pleased with her swim in the competition.
In the corresponding swim, Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry secured the silver medal on the podium by submitting an eye catching time of 1 minute and 02.20 seconds. Bianca Meyer of South Africa took home the bronze medal with an inspiring mark of 1 minute and
03.14 seconds.
Fella Benaceur of Algeria earned fourth place honours in a time of 1 minute and 04.10 seconds, while her compatriot, Sarah Hadj Aberrahmane settled fifth in a time of 1 minute and 06.25 seconds.
Meanwhile, Tunisia’s Ahmed Mathlouthi snared the Men’s 400m freestyle crown of the platform by posting a stunning time of 3 minutes and 54.03 seconds. Most importantly, Ahmed Mathlouthi beat Troyden Prinsloo’s meet time of 3 minutes and 55.29 seconds, set
back in 2007.
In the meantime, Riaan Schoeman of South Africa snagged the silver medal on the podium by submitting a unique time of 3 minutes and 58.49 seconds and his compatriot, Mark Randall earned bronze medal of the platform by posting a perfect time of 3 minutes
and 59.82 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Youghorta Haddad of Algeria earned fourth place honours in a time of 4 minutes and 04.39 seconds and his fellow citizen, Abdelghani Nefsi was placed fifth in a time of 4 minutes and 07.97 seconds.
The arena applauded for the scintillating swims of all athletes, while the victorious were awarded with medals and accolades after the end of day four’s session.
