Mandy Loots wins Women’s 100m butterfly semi-final: Day one - South African Long Course Nationals
Mandy T Loots of CGA-CG wins the semi-final of Women’s 100m butterfly on foremost day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Monday, April 16.
The 33-year-old Loots went on a rampage in the double lap butterfly event and smothered her challengers by occupying to finishing spot of the 100m discipline.
With her impeccable efforts, she spoiled the party of her competitors in the butterfly discipline as she sustained her pace in the second round and entered the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
Loots remained remarkably ahead of her challengers throughout the double lap event. She was the only swimmer to post a sub one minute effort in the discipline as she tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 59.44 seconds.
She was followed by Vanessa Mohr of NTS-NT, who remained nearly one body length behind and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.80 seconds.
The 17-year-old Mohr was trailed by Marne Erasmus of BOR-BO, who stayed only two strokes behind and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 01.12 seconds for third qualifying position.
Erasmus was trailed by Jessica Ashley-Cooper of WPA-WP, who remained 1.61 seconds behind her foregoing swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.73 seconds.
Subsequently, Mohr’s team-member, Rita Naude stayed almost one body length behind her preceding swimmer and reached the playoff as fifth finest swimmer by producing an effort of 1 minute and 03.57 seconds.
The 14-year-old Naude was chased by Chanel A Johnston of CGA-CG, who proved her eligibility for sixth best position by clocking a time of 1 minute and 03.86 seconds.
Johnston was trailed by Laura J McCulloch of KZNA-KZ, who earned seventh position with the timing of 1 minute and 04.44 seconds. McCulloch was trailed by her team-member.
Carys D Behn secured eighth position of the discipline by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 04.56 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship concluded after the completion of all swimming events in Men and Women’s category.
