Manhattan College releases 2011 volleyball season schedule – Volleyball update
The Manhattan College Women volleyball team’s approved itinerary was recently announced by the head coach, Mark Jones on Friday, June 18. The team will be taking part in a total of 31 matches in the upcoming season of 2011.
The Lady Jaspers will be taking part in various tournaments at the start of the season that will take place in Hofstra, Bucknell and Washington State. Other than that, the Lady Jaspers will be seen performing at home in the Draddy Gymnasium a total of 12
times.
The start of the season for the Lady Jaspers will take place on 26th August when they will be competing in the Asics Invitational in Hofstra. The first team that Manhattan will be up against is Radford. The tournament is planned to last two days
and during this time the Lady Jaspers will also encounter Norfolk State as well as Pride.
The Lady Jaspers will next be heading for the Bucknell Tournament. The Manhattan squad will competing against Dartmouth, Fordham and the host team of Bucknell.
In early September, the Lady Jaspers will be heading out to the Cougar Challenge. This will be an interesting experience for the Lady Jaspers as two out of the three teams in the tournament will be entirely new to them. The teams that the Lady Jaspers have
not played before are Washington State and the Sam Houston State. Other than that, the last time that the Lady Jaspers contested against the San Francisco team was way back in 1999. Unfortunately for the Lady Jaspers, that match turned out to be a 3-2 loss.
After making a short detour to Lafayette, the Manhattan team will head back to their home court for a series of five matches. The home tournament will feature the MAAC, in which the Lady Jaspers will be up against Saint Peter’s. The last of the five matches
are scheduled to be a non-conference one, in which the Lady Jaspers will fight the Fairleigh Dickinson team.
The Lady Jaspers had a season to be proud of last year and they are determined to make this one even better.
