What's the outside crunchy part of a Manhattan Sushi Roll? It's just fried seaweed, correct?

  1. You got me curious about the Manhattan Sushi Roll! I've never tried it. So I just had to check this out, too! Here's what I found:

"Many are familiar with the tiny, crunchy orange eggs that are added as a garnish to many of the rolls that are wrapped "inside out" (with the rice on the outside). These are either tobiko, flying fish eggs, or masago, smelt eggs. Tobiko are sightly larger (though not as large as salmon eggs, ikura, which will be covered separately). Sometimes, chefs "dye" the fish eggs a greenish tiny with the use of wasabi. Though they are garnish, these can be ordered as sushi in an of themselves."

Thanks for your question! I now have a new craving!  :-)

  2. some make it tempera style!

  3. This depends on the particular sushi restaurant, they all differ.  Personally, I have never heard of a Manhattan roll!  Just ask the restaurant, they will tell you what's in it.
