Question:

Manic panic on brown hair?

I'm using the (bright) red manic panic hair dye, and I have long brown hair. I'm expecting it to come out as more of a brownish red. But here's my question: I dyed my hair last night using a whole jar, and strangely the "shaft" of my hair came out pretty red (meaning a strong red highlight), but the top of my head remains brown. I'm wondering, should I put on a second jar of it tonight? Would it come out more red? or just darken?

Any advice will do. Thanks!

  1. the ends turn faster because of sun damage.  it makes the shaft more porous.  the new hair is in better shape and won't absorb the pigment as well.  a second jar won't do much more than what's already been done.  i wouldn't bother.

  2. In order for the red to show up you need to lighten your hair first. Think of it like this: If you had a brown piece of paper and you colored on it with a red crayon, it would hardly show up at all. But if you were to use that crayon on a white piece of paper you would have no problem seeing the color.

If you are wanted a more red-brown color try buy some actually hair dye at your local drug store

  3. The midshaft to the ends will come out the brightest, because the cuticle is raised, which allows the stain (Manic Panic), to penetrate easier. Your roots are fresh, and havent been exposed to enough weathered damage, so they will remain darker without higlighting first.

  4. I used the same kind.My hair is brown too.I didn't use the whole bottle though but it came out like a Burgundy color. It still looked nice but it didn't really show at the top.I would suggest for you and me to put more on.
