Manifest, latent, and dysfunctions of Halloween? ?

What are some manifest (consequence indented), latent (not intended, but desired), and dysfunctions (not intended, not desired) functions of Halloween??

  1. The manifest function this day is mainly for kids and adults alike to have fun by being someone else for an evening.  The latent function is really letting go of yourself.  Many people discover that when they are in costume they do things that they'd never do on the other 364 days of the year.  The dysfunctions are all the safety issues that arise, kids are more likely to be hit by cars on Halloween then on most days of the year.  Another dysfunction is all the people who are offended by this holiday because it is not in line with their beliefs.

    Interesting question, defiantly a change from the normal "What should I be for Halloween?" questions that I'm usually answering in here.  Happy Haunting!
