Manila set to host Women's World 10-Ball Championship
The best female pool players in the world will see action in the 2010 Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship, which will be held in Manila starting on 23 October.
Dragon Promotions confirmed that world No 1 Allison Fisher of England and European Champion Jasmin Ouschan of Austria will be among the 48 players who will take part in the prestigious event.
Also seeing action are Women’s Professional Billiards Association top player Kim Ga-young of South Korea, former world No 1 Karen Corr of Ireland, Amway World Open winner Cha Yu-ram of South Korea and defending champion Rubilen Amit of the Philippines.
Other notable players to watch are China Open champion Chen Tsai-pei of Chinese Taipei and All-Japan champion Han Yu of China.
"This will be probably our biggest production of the year. It's been very hectic after producing the Predator International Championships, The World Tournament of 14.1, and now our Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship. But we are excited about our new
partnership with Yalin and hosting all the greatest women's players in the world once again in the Philippines. It's an awesome country for billiards and a stage that the women really deserve to be on," Dragon Promotions chief executive officer Cindy Lee said.
Dragon Promotions founder and billiards pro Charlie Williams is expecting the event to be as exciting as the men’s competition.
“10-Ball is the ultimate test of skill in pocket billiards. It's no doubt a more challenging and skilful game than 9-Ball. The woman who wins this event in my mind will truly be the world champion,” he said.
A qualifying tournament will be held at the Star Billiards Manila on 23 October. The qualifiers will progress to the main draw, which will be held at the Robinson's Galleria from 25 to 29 October. The players' meeting and press conference will be held on
24 October.
The event will be aired live over local network ABS-CBN and ESPN Star Sports.
