Mann vs. Machine added to Team Fortress 2 – Video Games Update
Valve has announced today at Gamescom that the popular free to play shooter Team Fortress 2 will be getting a brand new co-op mode called ‘Mann vs. Machine’.
Team Fortress 2 was released in 2007 as a part of the Orange Box which included Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Episode 1, Half-Life 2 Episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. The Orange Box is one of the highest rated games on Metacritic with an average review score
of 96 percent.
Team Fortress 2 is a class based First Person Shooter (FPS) which nine different classes which consist of the Scout, Soldier, Demo-man, Pyro, Medic, Heavy, Engineer, Sniper and the Spy. After the success of the Orange Box, Valve brought Team Fortress 2
to Steam as a separate game worth $20. Valve has kept itself busy with the regular updates for the PC version of Team Fortress 2 and has added many new features, game modes and maps over the years since launch.
The most prominent change to the game was the addition of hats and other randomly generated loot that gamers would receive while playing the game. Some of the loot items had special perks that would make them stronger. Valve also added an in-game micro-transactions
store where gamers could purchase hats and other accessories with real money.
Valve has been very successful with the changes they implemented in Team Fortress 2 and the team based FPS has developed a cult following very quickly. Team Fortress 2 is one of the most popular games on Steam.
In June 2011 Valve surprised everyone by announcing that Team Fortress 2 would be going free to play. The move greatly increased the games install base and now anyone with a decent PC can just install Steam, download Team Fortress 2 and start playing.
Apparently Valve isn’t done with adding to the game as the company has announced today on Gamescom that it’s adding a new six player co-op mode called Mann vs. Machine to the shooter. This will basically be similar to Gears of War’s horde mode where a team
of up to six players will have to fend off waves of enemy robots with time to upgrade their equipment after each wave.
The new add-on to Team Fortress 2 will be absolutely free and the update drops on August 15, 2012 so be sure to log into Steam to check it out.
