  2. Im not sure if american sushi bars have any rules to follow by.  My husband likes Sushi and nobody ever looked at him wierd for not having proper sushi ettiquite (sp)

BUT... now that we are in Okinawa Japan, there are millions of things that we have to try to follow.  And if you do something wrong they do look at you a little strange, but for the most part they are nice people! I think that as long as you dont stick your chopsticks in your food, then you are ok.  (They find that VERY disrespectfull, That is what they do for there deceased family members in front of their tombs)

  3. aren't you supposed to eat sushi with your hands, and not with chopsticks?

  5. how to eat sushi: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-eat-...

Remember don't think about rules in the USA sushi bar. If you can't use chopsticks - eat with a fork. If you can't use fork - eat with your hand:) Just relax and enjoy:)

  6. Sushi bars in the US are not formal. Don't worry about the etiquette of sushi. Don't go yapping on your cell phone, or wildly talking to your friends, etc. Just sit at the bar, chat up the chef, find out what's good that day (don't bother with the menus), ask the chef to make a couple recommendations based on your comfort with sushi, they will go easy on you!

Try my favorite, Chirashi. It's mixed sashimi served on a bowl of rice, often with sunomono (sweet pickled cucumber), or wakame (seaweed salad). It may not be on the menu, but I promise you they will make it.
