  1. Peyton Manning is a better quarterback than Tony Romo. Manning has been a great quarterback for a long time while Romo is getting there. Manning is more consistent,

  2. Peyton>Romo

    Romo>Eli

  3. manning. when manning had a good year, the next year he had a bad year because opposing teams adjusted. the same thing is going to happen to romo this year. odds are he won't adapt. manning, however, is used to it, and he has more weapons than last year.

  4. It's hard to say, since they are from different style offenses.

Manning live in a spread offense with 80% passing.

Romo is more of a traditional pro offense that involves the running game and TE much, much more.

Think of it this way, if you switched them and put Romo on the Colts team, where he had 4 WRs every down, would he do better that Manning that would be put into a 2 WR set with a FB and a TE?

To me, Romo would do much better, because Manning is too used to receiving the ball and getting rid of it before the pass rush can even get started to get to him. If Manning had to pass out of the 2 WR set, he would have to move around in the pocket to buy time, which he isn't physically able to do like Romo is.

In the Colt's offense, Romo would not only be able to pick from 4 to 5 WRs every down, he also would have the ability to move around in the pocket and scramble if needed.

    So my opinion is Romo.

  5. Both of the mannings are better than romo but he is a good quarterback.

  6. Hi Hockey4Life,

This is a tough call because both players had similar fantasy point output in 2007.  Manning put up 20.9 fantasy points per game (using the standard scoring system) while Romo compiled 23 fantasy points per game.  So if you're strictly looking at fantasy output from the previous season, Romo wins in that category.

Another factor to consider is how Manning/Romo progressed/regressed from 2006 to 2007.  Manning's fantasy output from 2007 was very similar to his 2006 production, so from this I think we can surmise that his 2008 numbers will remain steady.  No major offensive changes were made, so I think we can expect similar production from Manning.

On the other hand, Romo actually had a better 2007 and than 2006.  Will this trend continue?  Even if Romo doesn't improve in 2008, but matches his production from 2007, we would have to conclude that he will put up more fantasy points than Manning in 2008.  If Romo improves significantly, it won't even be a contest.

I started this answer with Payton in mind, but other than name recognition I can't see any reason to conclude Payton will out-perform Romo in 2008.  The numbers just don't seem to be on Payton's side in this argument, as much as I hate to admit it.

"Who is better" is a subjective one and Payton may be the better football player today (based on his many years in the league).  However, if we're talking about from a fantasy football perspective in regards to 2008, I have to admit that Romo may get the nod.

  7. who's better, the answer is Manning. Who's better in fantasy football (since that's the section you choose), I think Romo by a hair.

Right now, Romo has the better team. He's got Owens and Witten as great route runners, Barber as a good running back (F. Jones should be good too), and a defense that gets them good field position. The coaching staff is letting Romo throw as much as he wants and especially in the red zone. Romo had 4 more TDs than Manning last year (38 to 34) and I like the Cowboys chances to do better this year. The Cowboys will finish this season with the best record in the NFC with little competition.

Manning has to play the Titans and Jags twice a year which both suddenly have pretty good defenses. The texans are actually legitiment on defense too. The Colts have a tough schedule out of conference too. I really think statistically and fantasy-wise that Romo will have the better year.

When considering you can get Romo later than Manning in a fantasy draft, he's a better value as well.

  8. Manning is consistant and always has a winning team. Manning is better.
