A friend of mine mentioned that Pacquiao could do fairly well at welterweight. I disagree with him. What do you think and why?

  1. Manny weighed 106 lbs in his first pro fight. He has already moved up many weight classes. I really can't see him going past 135 (lightweight). I think his natural size will hold him back.

  2. i think with mannys style  he would get knocked out against any of the decent welter weights

  3. manny is tough and eventually will move up, but i don't see him having the same success. he's a bull ,but losing a lil' speed and dealing with heavier punches , he might be the one gettin' the horns!!!!!

  4. i would have to disagree with him as well. from what i see, the current welterweights would be too much. they're bigger, faster, and stronger than pacquiao. pac is a good fighter, but i believe the current welterweights are on a whole different level for him to handle.

  5. Pacquiao has no business of even think about going up to welterweight. He would catch h**l just trying to be successful at junior welterweight.

Due to the lack of defense and opening for counter attacks, Pacquiao's fighting style is not meant for use against naturally bigger and stronger men, ESPECIALLY at welterweight. Pacquiao started out as a junior flyweight and welterweight is far from that. Also, Pacquiao has been knocked out twice at much smaller weight classes. Juan Manuel Marquez rocked Pacquiao a few times during both matches at featherweight and super featherweight. So just imagine what a strong, naturally welterweight would do to Pacman, especially if that welterweight can counter. In order for Manny Pacquiao to have even the slightest success at 147, he would have to be more of a boxer, which I don't see happening and outpoint his opponents, rather than slug it out with them.

Pacquiao fighting a true welterweight would look similar to Diego Corrales when he jumped up to welterweight to fight Joshua Clottey, a real welterweight. Corrales during his career was known for his power and heart, but neither asset had any effect in the outcome of Corrales' terrible beating. Pacquiao would have the exact same experience as Corrales.

  6. Manny maximum fight weight will be 135 lbs. (maybe 140 lbs. but that's pushing it)

  7. I dont think he is cut out to be a welterweight on a regular basis but i do think he could make for some interesting fights with some of the smaller welterweights like Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton or Floyd Mayweather

    Paquiao -          Height 5'6 1/2     Reach  67"

    Hatton -             Height  5'6 1/2     Reach  65"

    Cotto -               Height  5'7           Reach   67"

    Mayweather -   Height  5'8            Reach   72"
