Manny Pacquiao: Beating Floyd Mayweather is my son’s dream – Boxing news
Filipino Congressman and the current WBO welterweight champion, Manny Pacquiao has said that his 11-year-old son wants him to beat Floyd Mayweathr Jr. before retiring.
He further said that he is considering retirement because of his loved ones, mainly his family.
Manny Pacquiao, who is on the verge of retirement, will be facing Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Discussions of a super-fight between Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten Floyd Mayweather were on a high between both the fighters just when
things collapsed and both the fighters chose different opponents.
According to Manny, his son told him, “Dad, I want you to retire, but before, you have to fight [Floyd] Mayweather and beat him.”
In the recent weeks, updates on the changes Manny Pacquiao have brought in himself have irked many fans and even his camp people. Manny’s trainer Freddie Roach last week said he is quite worried about Manny since his religious beliefs are overtaking him.
According to Roach, God does not want Manny to hurt others and Manny is considering it too.
Fans of both the sides were super excited to see the bout between two of the most prominent superstars in the boxing world, however things did not materialise. According to Manny, Floyd Mayweather embarrassed him by offering him a lump sum amount of $40
million while he would walk away with the entire revenue generated by the fight. Manny revealed that he spoke to Floyd personally. He said, “I was in the Philippines, and I told him, `We need to make this fight happen, I said I would agree to a 50-50 [split]’,”
narrated the eight-division champion.”
Revealing Floyd’s offer to him, Pacquiao said, “He said, `Oh, I'll give you a $40 million guarantee, and no pay-per-view. I'll take all the pay-per-view.”
As of now, Mayweather will be fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5 whereas Manny Pacquiao will be fighting unbeaten Timothy Bradley. Camps of both the sides have promised fans that there will soon be a match between Mayweather and Pacquiao. However, if Pacquiao
retires then there is no way fans will see this mega-match happening.
