Manny Pacquiao: I pray for Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Boxing News
Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO Welterweight champion, says he prays for his acknowledged rival Floyd Mayweather Jr., who will be completing his first week of jail sentence in Clark County Detention Center. Manny Pacquiao is heading towards his bout against
unbeaten Timothy Bradley scheduled for June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. However, the Filipino cannot help but think of a bout between him and Mayweather before he retires.
Earlier this year, both fighters were in regular contact to arrange a ring meeting but it did not happen. Instead, Mayweather went onto fight Miguel Cotto whereas Pacquiao will be fighting Timothy Bradley this Saturday. Pacquiao is currently in Las Vegas,
preparing for the big day. He interacted with the media yesterday, speaking about his preparations and about Bradley. However, as usual, the Pac-man was shot with questions regarding Floyd Mayweather.
Pacquiao replied, “I'm praying for him. I'm not treating him as my opponent, my enemy or anything. I'm treating him as my friend, my brother. I'm praying for him that all things will be fine for him.”
The Filipino champion was then asked about the fact that Mayweather wanted to keep the entire PPV earnings and give him just $40 million. On this, Pacquiao replied, “Well, if you are a fighter, would you fight if I give you 40 million and nothing to share
in the PPV? I would not fight for that. He will be laughing [behind] my back if I do that. It's not a proper negotiation, if you're a businessman.”
On the other hand, Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, believes Mayweather has lost his stint. He remarked, “Mayweather has changed a lot now; his legs can't get him out the way.” He further said that he believes Mayweather is old now and he cannot move as
much as he used to once. Roach also spoke about Mayweather’s jail time. According to Roach, being in jail is the worst thing that can happen to you and it cannot do you any good. Roach recalled his two-day sentence in the jail saying it took him off the track
completely.
