Manny Pacquiao: I want to be a good, honest public servant – Boxing News
Rarely is it seen that an active athlete, who is on the peak of his career, is working as a public servant too. Indeed, Manny Pacquiao has the charisma to lead his people and he is using it at its utmost. The former WBO Filipino champion has been embraced
by his countrymen as their leader. Slowly but surely, Pacquiao is accomplishing his political tasks, and at the same time his boxing goals.
Currently, Pacquiao is training at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. His fans back in his hometown and in the USA never give up on meeting him. According to him, he is one man who is humble and at the same time proud of his achievements.
“I’m not really into (boxing), but his charisma rallies our nation, said JG Puzon, a Filipino who embraces Pacquiao as the best athlete ever. “He has this quality about him — humble and proud at the same time. He is a one-of-a-kind athlete. To me, no one
has matched his record, whether in the ring or in his public life. I’m very much aware of what’s happening back home in Congress and how he does his work. No pretensions, just genuine (concern).”
Filipino fans are not turned down by Pacquiao. The eight division world champion makes it a mark to always give his fans what they are looking for.
“I became a politician to serve — not to be served,” Pacquiao said to USA Today.
Pacquiao is currently scheduled to face Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Filipino will be taking on the Mexican for the fourth time, with two wins already. For Pacquiao, it is a win-win situation, yet the
Filipino wants to defeat Marquez via knockout in order to cement his legacy as the best pound for pound fighter who defeated all during his reign.
Moreover, a dominant win over Marquez will also take Pacquiao to a super-fight against WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. Therefore, the Pac-man is training hard to ensure he is the victor on December 8.
