Manny Pacquiao: I was embarrassed by Mayweather’s pay-per-view split offer – Boxing news
Finally, Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino Congressman and the current WBO welterweight champion, spoke about his conversation with Floyd Mayweather Jr., saying he felt embarrassed when Mayweather wanted to keep all the pay-per-view earnings while giving him
a lump-sum payment of $40 million.
Manny spoke about the conversation while he was promoting his upcoming bout with Timothy Bradley in Beverly Hills on Tuesday.
The Pac-man stated, “It was embarrassing to me. He was trying to take advantage of me. It is clear he didn't want to fight.”
At the event, Manny and others realised that fans wanted the super-fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather to happen, but it did not. Previously, Mayweather said Manny was not interested in making the brawl happen, while Manny never uttered a word regarding
it.
However, yesterday, at the promotional event, Manny finally revealed his side of story saying Mayweather was not looking forward the fight but was more interested in collecting the revenue.
Both the fighters, Pacquiao and Mayweather, were finally talking to each other regarding the bout by mid January just when news of the bout not materialising surfaced, saddening fans of both the camps. Mayweather chose Miguel Cotto as his next opponent and
Pacquiao chose Timothy Bradley to fight. Even though opponents of both the mega-boxing stars are tough, established and popular fighters, they still cannot bring the same excitement that would have been there if Manny had taken on Mayweather.
Pacquiao further remarked, “I called Floyd and told him that we need to make this fight happen. I said he could have whatever he wants, blood testing, 50/50 split and he said 'Oh, well. I will give you what you want.' Then he mentioned the pay per view.”
As of now, Manny Pacquiao will be facing unbeaten Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, whereas Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face Miguel Cotto on May 5. Both the brawls are being heavily promoted by promotion agencies, however they all know
that response from fans is not as much as it would have been for Pacquiao vs. Mayweather. Good news for fans is that Pacquiao has said that he will soon fight Mayweather.
