Manny Pacquiao: I’m not against g*y people – Boxing News
Manny Pacquiao’s recent stance against same-s*x marriage has stirred a lot of hate and anger towards him. Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion, is in Los Angeles these days, preparing at the Wild Card Gym for his upcoming bout against the unbeaten
American pugilist Timothy Bradley. Last week, in an interview Pacquiao ripped off US President Barack Obama for his support towards same-s*x marriage.
The interview Pacquiao had last week quoted the Filipino citing Leviticus 20:13, which reads that people who are involved in same-s*x marriages should be put to death. After the interview was published, sentiments of g*y people were hurt and the Filipino
pride saw rash reactions from them. However, yesterday, in an interview Pacquiao denied quoting any such references. In his words, “I didn’t say that, that’s a lie. I didn’t know that quote from Leviticus because I haven’t read the Book of Leviticus yet. I’m
not against g*y people … I have a relative who is also g*y. We can’t help it if they were born that way. What I’m critical of are actions that violate the word of God. I only gave out my opinion that same s*x marriage is against the law of God.”
Pacquiao has faced quite a lot of criticism from the American community, and the media community internationally for condemning g**s. The boxer is now banned from entering the Grove shopping mall for his words. However, Pacquiao has made it clear through
his website that he never uttered any anti-g*y remarks, especially those associated with extremism.
For now, the Filipino is training hard for his bout against Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Pacquiao will have his WBO welterweight title on the line, while Bradley will bring his undefeated streak to the ring. Bradley is a 1 is
to 3 underdog for the fight, but it seems like he has a huge fan club in the United States. After all this, it seems like Pacquiao will find himself under pressure in the arena, especially if the g*y community tries to put him down by chanting against him.
