Manny Pacquiao: Mayweather is preventing the fight from happening – Boxing News
It seems like the fight between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather will always remain a fantasy for boxing fans. On one end, both the pugilists say they want to go head to head but on the other end they
both blame the other from preventing the fight from happening. In his recent interview, Filipino pride Manny Pacquiao blamed Floyd Mayweather for being the major reason of the fight not happening. According to Pacquiao, Mayweather is the one who is impeding
the fight from happening.
When asked, the Filipino icon said, “He [Mayweather] no longer wants to split the pay-per-view revenue with me equally, something he agreed to in our first negotiation. Olympic style testing is more rigorous than the drug testing performed by the Nevada
State Athletic Commission…. It would involve random blood and urine testing before and after the fight. Nevada commission testing only tests urine for banned substances, once just before the fight and once immediately following the fight.”
He further added, “Will the fight ever happen? It's up to Floyd [Mayweather]. I hope it does. I'm a competitor and I enjoy a challenge. I know the fans want to see us fight. I think it would be good for boxing. As long as I continue fighting I will remain
hopeful that the fight will take place.”
Pacquiao said that he is ready to fight Mayweather but the American does not want it to happen. It should be noted here that both the fighters were in direct contact earlier this year to get the fight done but nothing happened. Floyd Mayweather called up
Manny Pacquiao to decide the terms. According to Manny, Floyd Mayweather offered him $40 million flat while he wanted to keep the entire pay per view proceedings. Manny said that the offer was embarrassing for him since he has a pugilist of equal calibre.
For now, Mayweather will be going to the jail to complete his 90-day sentence, whereas Pacquiao is Los Angeles, training for his fight against Timothy Bradley. The fight between Bradley and Pacquiao is scheduled for June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
