Manny Pacquiao an 8-to-1 favourite against Shane Mosley – Boxing news
The Fighting Pride of Philippines Manny Pacquiao as per the MGM Resorts’ Sports Book is an 8-to-1 favourite for his WBO Welterweight title fight against Shane Mosley.
The match between the two pugilists will be held Saturday evening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao has already satisfied his announced 8,000 fans, as he weighed in at a lean 145 pounds for his title defence whereas Mosley on the other hand came off the scale after hitting a 147-pound limit.
Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KO’s) after stepping off the scales told the media that he has plans of staying in the ring, moving, jabbing and he will go toe-to-toe with his opponent when the situation will arise.
A reason behind Pacquiao’s pride is his coach Freddie Roach, who has said his fighter, after an eight-week-long effort, has had his best-ever training camp.
Roach commented on the backstage of the Arena floor, “It's all there. My true gut feeling is that we'll win every round and the knockout should come.”
Roach this time is urging Pacquiao a lot to avoid his habit of leaning back against the ropes to test his opponent’s power, as he wants his fighter to become the first man ever to knock out Mosley.
“The game plan has to be followed,” Roach said.
The 32-year-old Pacquiao has several key advantages over his opponent. The biggest advantage of the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter Pacquiao is his ability to hit equally good from both hands.
His most flattering admiration came from one of his old rivals Juan Manuel Marquez who said, “Manny has some important work, but he is very strong. He'll win the fight.”
Pomona’s Mosley (46-6-1, 39 knockouts) will certainly have to produce something extraordinary in the ring, as his past record has not been so good. His best performance in the last two years came at the World Boxing Association Welterweight title where he
crushed Antonio Margarito to clinch the title. The other dominant performance was way back in February 2007 when he dominated Luis Collazo after a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision.
However, since 2009 his performance has not been up to the mark. He had a bout with the stormy Floyd Mayweather and lost the fight after 12 rounds. He was then one-on-one against Sergio Mora in 2010, which ended in a draw.
Though the 39-year-old Mosley thinks he is in a much better shape this time, people are hardly giving him any chance against the devastating Pacquiao, who has not only been winning his fights but has been dominating them as well.
