Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach deny pressure of Marquez fight – Boxing News
Former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao will be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time in his career. Although there is a lot of pressure from fans on Pacquiao to win this fight dominantly, the Filipino and his trainer believe otherwise.
According to Marquez, the fight is same as his every other and there is no pressure on him.
“My mind is focused on winning. Then, if I have a chance inside the ring to make the fight easy, then why not? Then I will grab that opportunity,” said Pacquiao, who is coming off a controversial loss at the hands of American unbeaten fighter Timothy Bradley.
Pacquiao is well aware of the fact that his performance has not been exceptional in his last two fights. He won against Marquez last year via split decision and lost to Bradley earlier this year. In other words, Pacquiao not only has to win but he also has
to prove himself as worthy of being the king of welterweight.
“Our strategy this time is more aggressiveness and of course to develop and to improve the strength more, and also focus on the speed. We have the side-to-side movement. I'm not worried about his strength,” he added.
Similarly, even Roach believes that there is no pressure on him for grabbing a defeat. The Hall of Famer trainer is on a streak of four losses. A win could break the streak and another could extend it.
“I'm just doing my job as best I can. We're getting Manny ready for this fight. The thing is, it has nothing to do with the rest of those guys,” he added.
Roach added that he does not consider Pacquiao’s loss to Bradley as a defeat. According to him, Pacquiao had won the fight and there is no argument about it. Roach believe he and Pacquiao are taking business as usual and they are not bothered with what others
say.
Pacquiao takes on Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Filipino is hoping for a knockout to end the rivalry once and for all.
