Manny Pacquiao assures he can take Marquez’s punches – Boxing News
Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao was present at the weigh in yesterday with Mexican opponent Juan Manuel Marquez. While Marquez looked beefed up, Pacquiao was his usual, lean and solid, determined to take on his opponent. On the other hand, Marquez
looked confident as always, exhibiting his newly sculpted physique that is much heavier than ever before.
“I can take his punches,” said Pacquiao, after he finished eating his meal, which supposedly was his first meal of the day.
“I can take the punches of Margarito,” Pacquiao replied when asked as to why is he so confident he can take Marquez’s punches, especially when the latter has completely transformed himself into a muscle man.
“I me the strength can take it. God will give,” he added.
“I'll win this with my speed, being more aggressive. I've been thinking about how this fight will go since the day I started training,” said the Filipino former WBO welterweight titlist.
Pacquiao currently stands with 54 wins, 4 losses, 2 ties and 38 knockouts in his portfolio, while Marquez stands with 54 wins, 6 losses, 1 tie and 39 knockouts in his portfolio. According to the stats, both fighters are more or less of the same calibre.
To add more excitement to the event, Promoter Bob Arum revealed that he has promised Pacquiao $23 million and Marquez $6 million, with possibly additions of pay-per-view revenue.
While Pacquiao was talking about his speed and agility, Marquez made it a mark to exhibit his muscle mass to make an impression. The Mexican flexed his muscles and pointed towards his supporters.
“It's going to be another war because we know each other so well,” he said. “This is the biggest of the fights,” he added.
Marquez and Pacquiao will take on each other tomorrow at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It will be the fourth fight between the two to finally put an end to the saga. Pacquiao has already won two out of three fights. Therefore, this one is mainly important
for Marquez to win, if he wants to prove he is better than Pacquiao.
