Manny Pacquiao back to the Philippines to help flood victims – Boxing News
Former WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao reached his home country the Philippines today to help the flood victims. It has been a week since the Filipino pride lost his title to Timothy Bradley via controversial split decision.
Pacquiao’s homecoming was not as huge as it usually is, due to his loss to the unbeaten American fighter. Pacquiao had plans of staying in Vegas for long with his family but after hearing about the flood in the Philippines that left many homeless, the pugilist
decided to come back and help his fellow citizens.
Pacquiao was invited to a press conference where men dressed up like gladiators stood in his honour. The former champion said, “Let us forget what happened, let us accept it wholeheartedly for God has a plan for us.”
Pacquiao then had a short interview with GMA TV in which he revealed that he had urged his fans to help the flood victims instead of giving him the grand welcome he usually gets. The former champion then went to the Roman Catholic Church in Manila Quiapo
to address worshipers. Pacquiao urged them to let go of their anger and accept the decision as it was God’s doing.
For now, Pacquiao will be spending most of his time trying to help the flood victims. On the other hand, his team along with promoter Bob Arum is waiting for the WBO to conclude their inquiry regarding the split decision that was given to Bradley.
Bob Arum has officially filed a request with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to review the fight results and decide if there was any influence on the judges for which they scored a one-sided fight for Bradley. On the other hand, the WBO has decided
to review the fight results with five international judges on the panel. According to the WBO, the findings of the judges will be suggested to the World Boxing Organisation for further action to be taken. The WBO has not yet revealed if Bradley will be stripped
off the title if the decision is reversed. Pacquiao might have a rematch against Bradley or the decision might be reversed, nothing is sure yet.
