Manny Pacquiao believes Marquez ran from him last time – Boxing News
Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao is up to something big this time. The former WBO welterweight titlist wants to end his rivalry with Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez with a knockout, which even Pacquiao know is a tough goal to achieve.
“I was really looking forward to fighting Tim Bradley. He had earned the shot at my title having been undefeated and unifying the junior welterweight titles twice. He always came to fight in shape and he always fought aggressively. I thought the fans would
enjoy our fight,” said Pacquiao when asked why he opted to fight against Marquez.
“But after the early rounds where I was connecting on a lot of my punches Bradley did what Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley and even Juan Manuel Márquez did when they fought me. He ran,” he added.
“And that is how I have trained for Márquez. To do my job,” said Pacquiao, following his statement that he needs to make the fight action filled.
According to Pacquiao, even Marquez ran from him during their last fight that took place last year in December. Pacquiao won the fight via split decision, but according to most fans and analysts it was Marquez who had fought better. Pacquiao was booed by
the fans for the very first time, even though he won.
Now, the Filipino pride is looking forward to a knockout to finally prove his mettle over Marquez, who stands as his long time rival. Both fighters have faced each other thrice and this time they are looking forward to end the saga once and for all.
If Pacquiao gets what he is wishing for, chances are he will score a super-fight against WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. If he loses, fans would be disappointed as they will not get to see the super-fight ever.
On the other hand, Marquez has already declared he is putting everything on the line against Pacquiao this time. According to Marquez, his legacy, his honour and his life is on the line against Pacquiao. He wants to win and he knows the only way to do it
is by knocking out the Filipino.
