Manny Pacquiao claims he was way ahead of Juan Manuel Marquez – Boxing news
Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation World Welterweight Champion (Super Champion), has insisted he was way ahead against the current World Boxing Association Super, World Boxing Organisation and The Ring lightweight champion, Juan Manuel Marquez, in their much-anticipated trilogy bout on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, was a heavy favourite against the Mexican Dinamita, Marquez, due to his skills and age advantage but their fight ended up in yet another controversial 12-round majority decision.
Many out there think the 38-year-old Marquez was robbed because they believe it was the Mexican who dominated the fight and not Pacquiao. However, Pacquiao is still stubbornly disagreeing with the facts.
The number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Pacquiao, who carries a record of winning 54 of his 59 professional fights (2 Draws), including 38 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media that Marquez was just running away from him and that is all.
Pacquiao told philboxing.com, “I believe that even before the 12 round bout was over, I was ahead and had won…I did my best under the circumstances to defend my crown and I succeeded, a factor which cannot be said of my opponent, who did nothing in the entire 12 rounds but run away, wait for me to attack and counter punch. You cannot win a championship that way. If you become champion, you have to fight for it, earn it and win it.”
A lot of people thought Pacquiao would take on the undefeated American legend, Floyd Mayweather, after out boxing Marquez but now it looks like a dream-fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, would stay a dream because after Pacquiao’s last performance, his promoter, Bob Arum is trying to set up a fourth fight between his man and Marquez.
Nevertheless let’s see who is going to be Pacquiao’s next opponent.
