Manny Pacquiao confirms fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is almost final – Boxing news
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao, has confirmed there are only a few little things left to work out before the contract for a dream-fight with the World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr., on May 5,
2012 is signed.
“We are ready,” Pacquiao told abs-cbnnews.com. “If it pushes through, once he signs the contract then I'll sign the contract. Only the little things are being worked out and negotiations are almost done.”
The 32-year-old Filipino star, Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation World Welterweight Champion (Super Champion), recently secured a controversial 12-round majority decision over Juan Manuel Marquez
in their much-anticipated trilogy fight on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Therefore, Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, wanted to arrange a fourth fight between his man and the Mexican Dinamita but now it looks like as if people will finally get what they desperately want to see for the last a few years.
The 34-year-old undefeated American legend, Mayweather Jr., who is a five-division world champion, holds a perfect record of 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout and many out there consider Pacquiao as the only man
who can beat the American superstar.
Although, Pacquiao’s stable-mate Amir ‘King Khan’ Khan, who is currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, not too long ago stated Pacquiao will not be able to beat Mayweather.
“Look, he has so much on his plate, on the strength of this performance, he wouldn't beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.,” Khan said after the Marquez fight. “For his sake, we have to be honest.”
Though the Bolton’s finest pugilist, Khan, later on remarked he did not mean it and his comments were twisted by the media, many of Pac-Man fans have created doubts in their minds.
Nevertheless, let’s see if Pacquiao, who is currently rated as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, really becomes the first man ever to beat Mayweather in the ring.
