Manny Pacquiao demands fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. for November – Boxing News
Former WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao demanded a showdown against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather, but was disappointed to know it cannot happen.
Manny Pacquiao met his promoter Bob Arum on Monday over dinner. Pacquiao visited Arum with his wife and his adviser Michael Koncz to discuss his next bout, which is scheduled for November 10.
While fans were promised that Pacquiao’s next opponent would be revealed after the fight, it did not really happen since the meeting struck a dead end. Pacquiao demanded a match against Mayweather but Arum told him it is not possible as Mayweather is currently
in jail and will be out by August. According to Arum, there is no one out there in Mayweather’s camp who can assure that the unbeaten American will fight Pacquiao in November.
On Pacquiao’s reaction, Arum revealed, “He kept a true poker face.” He added, “I explained to him everything that is going on and what we thought, but he didn't give anything away. He just listened and took it all in.”
When asked about Pacquiao’s next opponent, Arum iterated, “Who Manny fights is up to Manny. He's earned that right.”
According to Arum, a bout against Mayweather is possible next year but now. Arum further revealed that Pacquiao has the choice of either going for a rematch against Bradley or a fourth fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.
Earlier in his interviews, Arum has claimed that a rematch against Bradley will not be as profitable as a fourth fight against Marquez. According to Arum, boxing fans have already lost faith in Bradley and therefore a second episode of what happened on June
9 at the MGM Grand will not pull anyone to the arena.
It should be noted here that Juan Manuel Marquez has already been on the rails to get his hands on Pacquiao once more. However, Pacquiao’s camp has been reluctant to announce whether they are considering Marquez or not. Earlier this month, Pacquiao’s camp
revealed that a fight against Marquez is possible but nothing is for sure yet. They revealed that the final decision will be made by Pacquiao soon.
