Manny Pacquiao disagrees with Freddie Roach on training distractions
If you ask Manny Pacquiao, distractions haven’t been in the way of anything.
In recent weeks trainer Freddie Roach and conditioning coach Alex Ariza had complained bitterly about Pacquiao maintaining outside extracurricular activities while in the throes of training camp for upcoming November 13 bout with Antonio Margarito.
Roach had even gone so far as to call his time in Baguio City with the fighter the “worst” Pacquiao camp he had ever been party to.
According to boxingscene.com, though, Pacquiao vehemently dismissed claims of troublesome distractions, saying he “trained hard and there are no distractions, nothing to worry about.”
Pacquiao further indicated that his various roles as Philippine congressman, singer, and international icon were not conflicting with his status as the best fighter in the world.
“Pacman” said: “I have time for politics. I have time for boxing. This is why we’re not worried about the fight.”
And to worries that he will be fighting an opponent that is simply too big for him, Pacquiao comforted fans with the point that he has always fought “bigger guys” even though he is “small,” and that he has always succeeded in winning.
That may have been true against the likes of short Oscar De la Hoya and one-dimensional Miguel Cotto, but arguably Margarito will be a different story.
“The Tijuana Tornado,” if nothing else, will bring a caginess and work-rate Pacquiao will be obliged to compete against.  Margarito, after all, differs significantly from Pacquiao’s last opponent, Joshua Clottey, who did not show any spirit or alacrity to
win when they faced off in March.
“Pacman” will be looking for his eighth world title in as many divisions.
Margarito will be looking for an opportunity to take out the No.1 rated fighter in the world.  A win would also seemingly exempt him from the blame of a hand wrap controversy that marred his career in 2009.
