Manny Pacquiao feels pressurised by family to fight Mayweather – Boxing news
Manny Pacquiao, Filipino Congressman and the current WBO welterweight champion, said he feels pressurised by his family to fight Mayweather and retire.
On Thursday, Manny Pacquiao said his family wants him to retire from the sport after beating Mayweather.
Speculations regarding Manny Pacquiao’s retirement are already on the rise and this news has confirmed that the Pac-man is on his way to quit boxing.
However, what is intriguing is the fact that he wants to fulfil that one last wish from his family and his fans, which is to fight Mayweather.
Manny said his son wants him to fight Mayweather before quitting, as reported earlier. Manny said, “My oldest kid (Emmanuel Jr.) is 11 years old and he said, 'Daddy, I want you to retire, but before you retire I have one request. You fight Mayweather, you
beat him and then you retire.”
When asked about the fight’s possibility, Manny expressed, “I want that fight to happen.”
Previously, Bob Arum had notified the boxing world about the fight’s possibility saying that it might happen sometime in November, after Mayweather completes his jail term. Currently, Mayweather is scheduled to fight Miguel Cotto on May 5, while Manny is
scheduled to fight Timothy Bradley on June 9. In this context, a bout earlier than November is probably not happening since both the fighters will need at least 6 months to recover.
Manny further discussed the fight’s possibility saying, “I have maybe two, three more fights. Hopefully he (Mayweather) will fight before I retire. I'm hoping for a November fight.”
The super-bout between both the fights was being counted on since last year. Fans of both the sides were eagerly waiting for both the icons to clash. Dialogues between both the camps started earlier this year but came to a halt when Mayweather and Manny
Pacquiao had arguments over the phone.
Initially, Mayweather notified the press of Manny’s unwillingness to fight. However, later on, Manny revealed that he was not quite satisfied with the amount that was offered by Mayweather. In a previous interview, the Pac-man said he felt embarrassed when
Mayweather asked to him to take 40 million dollars while he (Mayweather) will keep the pay-per-view revenue.
