Manny Pacquiao helping those in need of housing – Boxing News
Former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao is helping the poor in his city with his own pocket. The Filipino boxing star and congressman returned to his village Barangay, Tango in Glan, Sarangani, to help the people there.
By now, Pacquiao has helped around 94 families, with an estimated cost of more than $2 million. According to the Filipino, the families are allowed to live for free but they must build their own houses.
“You don't have to pay anything except that you must help build your own houses,” said Pacquiao, who lost his WBO title to unbeaten American Timothy Bradley on June 9 this year.
Most of the houses will be built with the help of the Habitat for Humanity organization. Pacquiao has cautioned his people against selling the houses.
“When you already own the lot, don't sell it. Once you sell it, where will you live? You will be squatters again,” said Pacquiao.
“Don't forget that this housing project was built using the prize money I won during my fight with Margarito. During that fight, I was hit here,” he said.
For now, Pacquiao is busy helping his people. The Filipino fighter is scheduled to fight on November 10 but his opponent has not been decided yet.
Pacquiao is looking forward to a rematch against Timothy Bradley to get his title back. However, his promoter Bob Arum wants him to lock horns with either Floyd Mayweather or Juan Manuel Marquez, as he believes a showdown with Marquez or Mayweather would
sell better than a fight against Bradley.
On the other hand, Juan Manuel Marquez’s camp has been consistently pushing Pacquiao to fight their fighter. According to Marquez’s trainer, fans are interested in watching Pacquiao fight against Marquez but not Bradley.
Pacquiao will be meeting up Bob Arum to decide on his opponent. In their last meeting, Pacquiao asked him for a rematch against Bradley but the Hall of Famer promoter asked for more time to consider. However, Bob Arum has repeatedly said that Pacquiao has
earned the right to choose his own fighters, therefore there will be no pressure on him.
