Manny Pacquiao is a ray of hope for Freddie Roach to stop losing streak – Boxing Special
Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to face Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. While this fight is an important one for Pacquiao and Marquez, it is also equally important for Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie
Roach.
Roach, who is a Hall of Famer trainer, is seen as a pioneer in the world of boxing. He has created champions and leads a gang of fighters that are the most elite ones. Unfortunately, for some reason, the last few years have not been quite good for Roach.
His fighters have lost four consecutive fights, making his score 0-4 for now.
Roach’s losing streak started with Briton fighter Amir Khan’s loss to American Lamont Peterson in December last year. Although the fight had several irregularities and later Peterson was confirmed of being on drugs, the win decision to the American was still
not reversed. In other words, the first loss in many years to Roach came at the hands of Amir Khan.
Next for Roach’s star fighter Manny Pacquiao’s controversial split decision loss to American unbeaten fighter Timothy Bradley. Again, the decision was not very much appreciated by the masses. In fact, the WBO had a fight review with five judges and each
of them declared Pacquiao the winner. Still a loss is a loss and well, Roach went down to 0-2.
What Roach did not expect was a third consecutive loss in his portfolio at the hands of Amir Khan once again. Khan went onto face Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The Briton loss via knockout to the American unbeaten
fighter, bringing Roach down to 0-3.
While all of these three wins were controversial, Roach had a way of escaping them but what came next was quite unexpected. Julio Cesar Chavez went head to head against Argentinean fighter Sergio Martinez. Not only did Chavez lose the fight, he was also
found positive on drugs. In other words, Chavez outclassed Pacquiao and Khan. He did not just mark another loss in Roach’s profile but he also embarrassed the Hall of Famer trainer.
