Manny Pacquiao is tired of Floyd Mayweather’s excuses – Boxing News
Former WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has finally given a deadline to current WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a super-fight. Pacquiao, who has always been very accommodating, is now on the verge of putting an end to the saga.
In a recent interview, the Filipino pride asserted that Mayweather has only 2013 to make the super-fight happen, or else it will never be.
“If the fight doesn't happen, it's not my fault. I'm not going to accuse him of being greedy or judge him. It's hard to judge. It's his title, it's his life, (but) I believe he is avoiding me,” said Pacquiao in an interview with USA Today.
Pacquiao has been quite convenient to Mayweather recently, withdrawing his recent lawsuit over the unbeaten American and giving in to every condition he had put for the super-fight, yet Mayweather is not showing any green signals for the showdown.
“I don't know. That question is for Floyd,” said Pacquiao when asked if the fighter will ever happen.
Not just Pacquiao, even his trainer Freddie Roach thinks likewise.
“I think if the fight doesn't happen next year, it never will happen. People are getting bored and tired of (talking about it). We're chasing a rabbit we can't catch,” said Roach.
“I think there's always going to be some value to the fight," he said. "But the longer it goes on, its value diminishes. A percentage of people are starting to think, 'Boy these guys aren't in their prime anymore.'”
Top Rank’s Bob Arum had earlier promised fans of the super-fight happening in 2013 but now it seems like it will not happen anytime soon.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has no plans of facing Pacquiao. The duo was in direct contact earlier this year when Floyd asked Pacquiao to take a flat fee while he will keep the entire pay-per-view proceedings. Pacquiao was offended, considering the fact that fight
will generate nothing less than $200 million. Floyd offered Pacquiao to walk away with $50 million, which according to Pacquiao was an embarrassing offer for him.
Now, Pacquiao is ready to give 55% of the entire pay-per-view to Mayweather yet the unbeaten American is not willing to take the deal.
