Manny Pacquiao needs to decide between Freddie Roach and Alex Ariza – Boxing News
After an argument between Freddie Roach and Alex Ariza, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao finds himself amidst confusion. Alex Ariza is the conditioning coach for Pacquiao, whereas Freddie Roach is his trainer. At Baguio City’s training camp set for
Pacquiao and Amir Khan, Alex Ariza left earlier than decided to work with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Although Ariza had taken permission from Pacquiao, Roach was disappointed with it.
Earlier this week, Roach spoke about Ariza’s act, calling it not something he would appreciate. When asked about Ariza, Roach said, “I'm going to suggest to Manny that we maybe get rid of him or I get a new strength coach.”
On the other hand, Ariza replied, “When I spoke to Manny and we had our conversation, he just said, 'You're only going to be gone really for a couple of weeks.' It's not like I left in the heart of training or two weeks before, or I left for a whole camp.”
Boxing analysts and journalist Michael Marley believes that it is about time for the Filipino champion to decide between Ariza and Roach. He said, “I think that, once this fight is over, Pacquiao needs to set his squabbling staff straight or make some changes.”
Roach is a Hall of Famer training coach and he has been with Manny since the very start. On the other hand, Ariza is the best conditioning coach and Manny cannot lose him as well. Therefore, it is a tough decision for the Filipino to choose between them.
It is best for Manny to make sure things work out between the two of them before he would be asked to choose a side.
Earlier this week, when Manny was asked about Ariza and whatever he did, the WBO welterweight champion replied saying that the media is making a big deal out of it. According to Pacquiao, Ariza went just for a few weeks after he completed his job. In other
words, Manny is not convinced that Ariza made a mistake, instead the Filipino thinks Ariza had the right to go and work with others as well.
