Manny Pacquiao on Bradley’s head butts: It is a concern – Boxing News
Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion, is training hard to make sure he counters Timothy Bradley’s techniques. Unlike others, Bradley will be a troublesome opponent for Pacquiao, and the Filipino very well knows this. In his recent interview,
Manny Pacquiao accepted the fact that indeed Timothy Bradley’s head butts will be a problem and he is working hard to avoid them.
When asked about how he will counter Bradley’s head butts, Pacquiao said, “It's a concern. Bradley's a good boxer. He's young and strong, and it is going to be a good fight. We brought in new sparring partners for this fight, and they have pushed me to work
hard.”
Similarly, Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach said, “I don't know that he's intentionally trying to headbutt his opponent, but there's no question Bradley leads with his head. We usually don't train for that, but this is the exception. Manny has to make sure
he doesn't get headbutted.”
Roach added, “These young guys have come in, and they're not taking it easy on Manny. They're forcing him to focus and concentrate, which is exactly what Manny needs.”
Pacquiao was then asked about his retirement plans on which he replied that he will go for a couple of more fights, probably one more this year and two in 2013 before hanging up his gloves.
It should be noted here that Bradley’s head butts and elbows have been a problem for many fighters. In fact, some trainers and analysts have even raised questions over Bradley’s fighting style. Similarly, even Roach thinks Bradley’s fighting techniques are
a bit questionable, but he is confident that Pacquiao will take him down.
On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao believes that if Bradley comes up with such techniques, he will have to face the Filipino ferocious fist as a counter. Roach predicts that Pacquiao will blow Bradley by the sixth round and that also with a knockout.
For now, Pacquiao thinks it is best to train hard and leave the rest on God. When asked to make a prediction, Pacquiao, the Filipino superstar, said, “Whatever God wants will happen.”
