Manny Pacquiao opens up in an interview Sugar Ray Leonard – Boxing News
American retired professional boxer Sugar Ray Leonard interviewed the current WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Unlike most interviews, this one was more of a personal interview than a professional one. Both the pugilists shared their experiences
as boxers and spoke about their inspirations and personal lives.
The interview started with Sugar Ray appreciating Manny Pacquiao’s achievements, calling him a rockstar who reached the acme of global right from the start. Sugar asked the Filipino Pride if he feels burdened with all the attention he gets and if he is able
to manage to his time well. Manny replied that he does not really feel pressured since he knows how to manage his time. He said his first priority has always been his family and then his boxing career. The Filipino iterated that for him giving time to his
family is the most important thing and then to his political and boxing career.
Sugar then asked Pacquiao about his political career and why he went for it. Pacquiao replied that he likes helping out people and he feels happy and relax to see people happy because of him. Leonard then shared his past saying that when he saw Muhammad
Ali was the first time in his training facility, he knew he had made it to the top since Ali was his God and icon. He asked Pacquiao as to when Pacquiao knew he had made it to the top. However, Pacquiao’s answer was unexpected. According to the Filipino, he
has never put all his achievements ‘in his head’ and that he feels good for whatever God has blessed him with. He thanked all the fans for their support.
Sugar even asked Pacquiao about how he feels facing Timothy Bradley. Pacquiao replied that Pacquiao is a strong fighter and since he is an unbeaten fighter, he poses a threat to him. The last question of the session was regarding Pacquiao’s retirement. According
to the Filipino, his family wants him to retire especially my mom but his 11-year-old son wants him to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. before he hangs his gloves. This was the end of the session with both the boxers bursting into laughter after Pacquiao reiterated
his son’s request on the show.
