Manny Pacquiao scores first victory over Floyd Mayweather Jr – Boxing News
Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao has not yet faced American unbeaten fighter Floyd Mayweather in the ring, but Pacquiao has already scored a victory over Mayweather. Pacquiao, who sued Mayweather last year for defaming him, got the verdict in his
favour. A federal judge ruled that Mayweather should pay $113,000 to Pacquiao for failing to provide deposition for the suit.
“Calling a professional athlete a cheater is the most serious charge one can make,” was a statement from Pacquiao’s lawsuit. “Accusing an athlete of using performance-enhancing drugs - however baseless and lacking in evidence - is toxic.”
It should be noted here that a hefty amount of this lawsuit would go to Pacquiao’s attorney, who filed the suit on behalf of the Filipino fighter following Mayweather’s baseless claims.
Mayweather told reporters last year and earlier this year that he is not fighting Pacquiao because the latter is on performance enhancing drugs. According to Mayweather, Pacquiao’s ‘head’ has grown double in size since the time he entered the boxing world.
Mayweather believes that steroids is the only reason as to why Pacquiao’s ‘head’ has grown so big.
While Mayweather thought, he has the right to defame any fighter or athlete in the world like h defamed NBA player Jeremy Lin, Pacquiao certainly did not let him win this one. The two are already major rivals in the industry and now the enmity has moved
a step further.
“Busy living the 'luxurious lifestyle non-stop,' 'pour(ing) champagne for (his) friends,' and keeping the company of 'attractive women,' Mayweather refused to be deposed. He disobeyed properly served deposition notices, filed specious 'emergency' motions,
openly defied this court's order directing him to appear, and serially misrepresented his whereabouts to Pacquiao and this court. Exposing Mayweather's untruths was a massive - and expensive – undertaking,” according to the motion.
Even though this means win for Pacquiao and loss for Mayweather, fans might be disappointed to know that this defeat for the American unbeaten can result in no fight between the two next year. The duo has worked hard to bridge their distances in order to
give fans a super-fight, but now it seems like the damage has been done and Mayweather might once again back off.
