Manny Pacquiao still not in top form for his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez – Boxing news
The eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), Manny Pacquiao, has admitted he has yet to recover to his full fighting form.
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny Pacquiao, also known as Pac-Man, is set to fight the Mexican Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez, in a much-anticipated bout on November 12, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 32-year-old Pacquiao, who is
rated as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world by many sporting websites and news channels, after two days of training in Baguio City admitted in front of the media he felt an increased heart rate past his first uphill run.
"This was my first day running uphill, I had some trouble," said Pacquiao in Filipino.
However Pacquiao’s trainer and friend, Buboy Fernandez, believes it is all normal. Fernandez remarked Pacquiao has been inactive for a while. Therefore an increased heart rate is a normal thing.
"His roadwork was good. It's normal to experience an increased heart rate since he hasn't been active for many months," said Fernandez.
This is the third time Pacquiao and Marquez will be facing each other in the ring. They first met back in 2004 for the WBA and IBF Featherweight world titles at the same MGM Arena in Las Vegas and after 12 brutal rounds of boxing the bout ended up in a controversial
draw.
There second meeting came in March 2008 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, United States for the Ring and WBC World Super Featherweight titles. Pacquiao won this fight via split decision but it also had a controversial ending. Therefore Fernandez reckons
there will be a lot of pressure on both fighters this time.
Fernandez stated this will be a battle of nerves before he admired Marquez’s skills. He went on to say, "This fight will be mental. Marquez knows how to fight southpaws," he said. "We at Team Pacquiao don't underestimate Marquez, because he is not an ordinary
boxer."
