Manny Pacquiao still not revealing his opponent – Boxing News
It has been two months since the Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao had his last match. Back then, in June, Bob Arum revealed that Pacquiao would fight next on November 10. Due to his political campaigns, Pacquiao compelled Arum to move the fight date to
December 8. However, he still has not notified anyone regarding whom he is going to fight next.
“We're not in liberty to tell you who [he's fighting]... that's my instructions,” said Top Rank’s Bob Arum in an interview to Brad Cooney of 8 Count News.
According to Arum, they have already decided whom Pacquiao would be facing next. However, the Hall of Famer promoter believes Pacquiao has all the rights to keep the news private.
Pacquiao has selected his foe between unbeaten American fighter Timothy Bradley and Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao went head to head to Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Even though he was leading the fight, the judges thought otherwise and Bradley was declared the winner, a decision that attracted much hatred from the public.
On Pacquiao’s next opponent, his trainer Freddie Roach believes Marquez would be a better draw.
“The thing is that Marquez does have a hard style for us. He knows how to get Manny to move into the right hand and we just got to nullify that… we better get it done in this fight or we won't win this one,” said Roach.
“It's a very difficult fight stylewise for us, he does give us problems. But I think if Manny Pacquiao gets in the best shape he can, we will finally close the book on Marquez,” he added.
It should be noted here that Pacquiao has fought thrice against Marquez. The first fight went into a tie, the second one was won by Pacquiao via unanimous decision while the third one was won by Pacquiao via split decision.
Pacquiao showed his inclination towards fighting Bradley in a rematch earlier this month but his promoter Arum believed it would be better for the Filipino to face Marquez. As of now, we still do not know what the former champion has decided.
