Manny Pacquiao still optimistic about Floyd Mayweather bout
Despite two colossal attempts to get a fight going, Manny Pacquiao is still optimistic he will fight Floyd Mayweather in the future, Lem Satterfield of Fanhouse reports.
"For the fans, I hope that it [Mayweather fight] happens. It would be a nice gift to the fans, because without the fans, Manny Pacquiao would not be Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather would not be Floyd Mayweather. I've said everything I can say about
it, but Floyd has to agree to fight me," Pacquiao said.
Almost all in the boxing world agree that while a first round of negotiations saw complications from both sides, Mayweather all but ducked “Pacman” a second time around. Indeed “Money” even refused to speak about Pacquiao while preparing for a lucrative
fight with “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
Pacquiao recently arrived in Dallas, Texas, to finish off his last leg of training before a Saturday bout with Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao warded off doubts about his preparation and insures he will be ready when he enters the ring.
Mayweather has been inactive since his Mosley bout in May. Since then he has come under heavy scrutiny for his actions both public and private. He released a video after talks with Pacquiao tapered off, insulting the Philippine congressman in a way that
was considered racist to most, and soon after became engaged in a legal dispute with former girlfriend Josie Harris filing for larceny and battery.
Pacquiao and Mayweather remain polar opposites in the sport of boxing, with Manny inhabiting the role of the humble ‘lawmaker’ and Mayweather the spoilt lawbreaker. As they are considered the top two fighters in the sport, a bout between them is predicted
to generate unprecedented amounts of money.
Pacquiao indicated recently he would "like to fight every five-to-eight months,” but that remains to be seen as political duties have become increasingly conflicting with his boxing career.
