Manny Pacquiao still tied to Mayweather on RING Magazine’s list – Boxing News
After a controversial, more likely shameful, decision was announced past Saturday against Manny Pacquiao and in favour of Timothy Bradley, RING Magazine has decided not to demote Pacquiao in the listings and keep him on top of the welterweight fighter’s
list along with Floyd Mayweather jr. The decision for Bradley was mourned by several officials, fighters and celebrities around the world, as all of them believed Pacquiao had clearly won the fight.
While talking about the issue, Michael Rosenthal, editor of RING magazine, revealed, “In the end… the Editorial Board decided to break from tradition and do what we believed was the right thing: Completely ignore one of the worst decisions of our time as
it applies to Pacquiao.”
He added, “He simply doesn’t deserve to be punished whatsoever for something over which he had no control. To take the opposite approach would be giving tacit approval to a shameful performance by the judges.”
Although the result will not affect Pacquiao’s rating as a fighter, the victory for Bradley will be a plus point. Bradley has now entered the welterweight ratings and stands at spot No. 8 for lasting 12 rounds against the number one pound for pound pugilist
in the welterweight division. He is still the number 1 junior welterweight fighter.
Not only RING Magazine, a lot of organisations around the world have lashed out on the judges for giving the split decision to Bradley. Boxer Amir Khan called it a robbery that happened in the USA at the hands of American judges. He then challenged Bradley
to meet him in the ring after he is done with Danny Garcia on July 14.
Similarly, Justin Timberlake called it an embarrassing decision and so did a couple of other celebrities. Oscar de la Hoya, who suffered a knockout defeat at the hands of Pacquiao, believed the Filipino won the fight clearly and that Bradley should have
given the title and the victory to Pacquiao.
While all the pressure from around the globe is on the NSAC, the organisation defends itself saying the judges are experts in their fields and whatever decision they made was under no influence.
