Manny Pacquiao tries to win over doubtful team with new efforts
After Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach recently criticised the fighter for not taking his training seriously enough, it created doubts that his fighter was too involved in extra-curricular activities
like playing Philippine congressman and charity benefactor. But now Pac-Man's camp is coming around with words of high praise for how the seven-division titlist has turned it around.
Conditioning coach Alex Ariza spoke with boxingscene.com and said that his latest afternoon workout in Baguio City was a success, and that Pacquiao appeared to be reaching unprecedented training heights.
After a sparring session with partners Mike Medina and Glen Tapia, Pacquiao successfully completed Ariza’s high-intensity isometric routine, and received praise from his camp.
Pacquiao “did really well and looks so much better,” Ariza claimed. Even Pacquiao’s sparring partners were reportedly stunned with his performance compared to that offered just days ago.
Roach said that “Pacman” is coming along “fine” given the timeline of a month before the fight.
Now Manny wants to prove he’s still serious about his upcoming November title bout with bad boy Antonio Margarito, in which he’ll 13 try to win the vacant WBA junior middleweight title.
Pacquiao is pushing himself relentlessly to make up for lost time, and his camp clearly believes the newfound dedication is paying off. It wasn't always that way- at one point Roach became so enraged at
Pacquiao's focus on recreational basketball playing he publicly barred him from doing so.
Pacquiao and Margarito will square off at the Cowboys Arena in Dallas, Texas, to an expected 70,000 excited fans. The fight has one monumental theme going for it: the lawmaker versus the lawbreaker.
In a recent interview with video journalist Elie Seckbach, boxing analyst Doug Fischer indicated that Margarito was “in good shape” and definitely on target to make the weight limit. Fischer visited Margarito’s
training camp in California and confirmed the developments to Seckbach and more candidly in an article for Ring Magazine. According to him Margarito “looks strong and a little bit faster.”
A Margarito victory over Pacquiao would be a colossal upset in the boxing world, as it would all but crush prospects for a mega-fight between Pacquiao and undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.
