Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez on cards – Boxing News
Finally, Filipino fighting star Manny Pacquiao has decided to lock horns with long term foe Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time. The former WBO champion took considerable time to decide between a fourth episode against Marquez and a title rematch against
the current World Boxing Organisation champion Timothy Bradley.
As of now, reports suggest the Filipino has decided to go one on one against Marquez, overlooking the ambitious offer of a rematch by Bradley.
Source close to the Filipino revealed the news to The Times yesterday. It should be noted here that the announcement has not yet been made official.
“Manny is the consummate entertainer and showman who cares about his fans,” said Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser and friend. “He heard the boos after his last fight with Marquez. He has a lot of fans in Mexico and loves them. He wants to bring those fans
back.”
Koncz statement marked the fact that Pacquiao is looking forward to take on Marquez instead of Bradley. However, since the statement had come prior to the meeting with Top Rank’s Bob Arum, it did not confirm as to whether Pacquiao has finalised the fight
or not.
“I don't like that fight, it's just always very difficult and no matter what I tell Manny, he's tempted to go back to his old way, which isn't working,” added Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer.
“I'm debating what to tell him. I'm thinking, just to be very aggressive the way Manny was when he knocked Marquez down three times in the first round of their first fight.”
For now, fans are still waiting for the official confirmation of the bout by Bob Arum. Arum met Koncz yesterday, in order to finalise Pacquiao’s foe for December 8. Before the meeting, Arum asserted that he will be pushing Pacquiao for a fight against Marquez
but the final decision rests with the Filipino fighter.
No confirmation from Arum has been received. Since we do not have an official confirmation yet, the curiosity is not yet over. Who knows, maybe Pacquiao bounces back to a rematch against Bradley, as he has promised his fans to bring home the WBO title.
