Manny Pacquiao’s adviser reveals Nike’s new plans for Pac-man – Boxing News
Following President of UFC Dana White’s revelation regarding Nike ending the Pacquiao line, Manny Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz revealed Nike is churning up better plans for the Filipino fighter.
While talking to Manila Standard, Koncz revealed that he has spoken to the executive of Nike’s Corporate Office at Beaverton, Oregon and they told him that the comments made by Dana White were ‘pretty amusing’ and definitely false.
“The Pacquiao line is selling very well. They have some other things going, that would involve Pacquiao,” Koncz quoted Nike officials as telling him,” said Koncz.
Last week, Dana White claimed that Nike is looking forward to launch a new line on Jon Jones after ending Manny Pacquiao’s line. He added that even he was unsure as to why the company is doing that since the Pacquiao line is ‘selling like hot cakes’.
White’s comments stormed through Pacquiao’s fans all around the globe. They were upset as to why the boxing icon is being put down, even though he still is among the best athletes in the world.
Some speculations suggested that Pacquiao’s last lost to Timothy Bradley forced Nike to take the decision. However, they were not true. According to Koncz, Nike has confirmed that the Pacquiao line will not be shut and that they are making more plans for
the same line.
As of now, Pacquiao is in the Philippines providing shelter to those who are in need.
Top Rank’s promoter Bob Arum flew last week to the Philippines to speak to Manny Pacquiao for his next opponent. The Filipino is still confident over his skills, despite his controversial loss to Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this year.
For now, Arum is hoping for Pacquiao to face either Juan Manuel Marquez or Miguel Cotto in a rematch on November 10, a date for which Pacquiao has already been scheduled. However, Pacquiao is still insisting on facing Bradley for a title rematch.
According to Arum, a rematch against Bradley will not be as fruitful as a rematch against Cotto or Marquez. Since Pacquiao has promised his fans of bringing the title back home, he wants to face the unbeaten American as soon as possible.
